About Vantačići and Island Krk

Vantačići is situated on the shore of the forested bay between Malinska (2 km) and Porat (1 km). All three settlements are connected by beautiful coastal promenade that winds along the coast, beach and pine trees.

Vantačići is an ideal destination for an escape from everyday life, stress and city noise because of its peaceful location, greenery and clean sea. Few fish restaurants and two grocery shops are at the guests disposal.

Also there's a port in Vantačići with approx. 150 boat moorages (safe from the storm).

Until recently Vantačići have been a small town of fishermen and farmers. Today this is a well known touristic settlement, full of hardworking and hospitable people, where every guest feels welcome.
Even the Austrian nobility led by Rudolf von Habsburg discovered Malinska as a very nice place, ideal for relaxation from the city noise and stress.

More than hundred years Malinska is a favorite destination for those looking for beauty, peace and health. Extremely mild climate of this large bay provides a vacation during summer and winter months. Long promenades, variety of Mediterranean vegetation, hidden beaches, quality accommodation and sports facilities make Malinska an attractive tourist destination at any time.

Main characteristics of the mild climate are: 260 sunny days per year (2200 sunny hours per year) and average July sea temperature of even 25 °C! The sea is warm and pleasant for swimming in Malinska and Vantačići because of the bay location - there are no strong sea currents and the water is relatively shallow. According to this, the bathing season in Malinska and Vantačići lasts for 6 months (from May till October). Krk is the largest and northernmost island in the Adriatic sea. It's located on the 45th parallel north so it's the closest Adriatic island to countries of central and northern Europe. Island Krk is situated in the Kvarner Bay, it's the largest island in the Adriatic sea and has a surface of 409.9 sq km.

  • Road way - Krk bridge (1309 m long)
  • Skyway - Krk Airport (located in the northern part of the island near Omišalj)
  • Seaway – for sailors Krk is also easily accessible, with ferry lines towards the islands Cres and Rab
Highest point: Obzova (569 m).
Around the island there are twenty small islands, cliffs and reefs: Prvić, Galun, Zec, Plavnik, Kormati, Košljun, Sv. Marko etc.
16,402 people live in 68 settlements on the island.
Relief: Karst, with interesting karst formations: caves and caverns (Biserujka near Dobrinj), sinkholes and karrens.
Central part of Krk is filled with fertile fields: Omišaljsko, Dobrinjsko, Vrbničko and Bašćansko.
Coast: Good indented with many bays, coves and natural gravel beaches. Largest bays are Soline (healing mud) and Puntarska draga.

Climate: Pleasant and mild Mediterranean climate. Average summer air temperature is 22.8°C; sea temperature between 23 and 25°C.
Main winds: bura (north-east wind), jugo (south-east wind) and Mistral wind.
According to the number of sunny hours per year (2 500) Krk is one of the sunniest parts of Europe.
Water: On the island there are two lakes: Jezero and Ponikva, and three rivers: Veli or Dobrinjski stream, Vretenica and Vela Rika.
Vegetation: Central and western part of the island is covered with forests and Mediterranean grown cultures, fruits and vegetables, vineyards and olive groves. Northern and southern part of Krk is consisted of rocks and pastures.

Krk is the largest Croatian island with rich cultural and historical heritage populated from ancient times. Because of that fact many cultural monuments can be found on the island which are proudly shown to the guests by island inhabitants. The most famous are the island castles in Krk, Omišalj and Dobrinj which even today represent the center of city events. If you visit any place on the island you'll find yourself enchantingly walking through small narrow streets. Also you will be able to dive, sail, ride a bicycle or surf – hosts thought about everything .
Golden wine 'Vrbnička žlahtina' will nicely go along with traditional fish and shellfish dishes flavored with olive oil.

In Vantačići there are two very attractive promenades:

  • First promenade, marked in red on the map, passes all the way along the sea (Lungo Mare). Starts in Rajski put, north-westward from Haludovo, and passes through Malinska, Vantačići and Porat. Ends southward from Porat in Sveti Martin.
  • Second (main) route passes through fields and woods around Malinska, Vantačići and Porat. It's marked in blue on the map. It's starting in the settlement Sveti Vid Miholjice and passes through Sršić, Rasopasno, Sveti Peter, Oštrobradić, cemetery in Bogovići, Turčići, old cemetery and ends in the settlement Fumak (southward from Porat).
